Ahhh - School days . . .
The biggest challenge may be getting out the door on time - try these tips:
  1. Prepare the night before: lay out clothes, pack lunches, place homework in backpacks (especially on Sunday)
  2. Create Visual Clues: for little ones create a poster of pictures of steps.  Your big kids keep forgetting something?  Have them put it in the doorway path.
  3. Keep last minute items handy:  If a trip upstairs to preform last minute personal grooming tasks results in a detour, place the items in a kitchen drawer.
  4. After school - if the questions  'What did you do today in school' or 'How was your day"  results in the same NON-answer try the 'Two Truths and a Lie' game.  To play -- your child tells you 3 things that happened during the day to in school and you have to figure out which one is a lie.  Or relay information about your day or your school years at that age.

More information regarding back to school days can be found in an article by Betsy Goldberg and Elizabeth Passarella published in Real Simple September issue

Organize by the Month - SEPTEMBER
Your summer fun has left your car, your back yard and your linen closet in a dis-shoveled mess.

September is the month to fix that!

  1. Car - Start with one area -  Start with the space between the two front seats move to the car pockets, visors, glove compartment and finish at the  trunk.  Remove all items that may belong some place other than the car.

  2. Back Yard - Clean outdoor furniture, place lawn games, not being used regularly, in a storage bin, weed the flower garden, clean and sharpen blades of lawn mower and other lawn maintenance tools.

  3. Linen Closet(s) - Take the time to de-clutter and clean your linen closet and bathroom shelves. Think of donating old linens to a shelter.  Purge your guest bedroom/bath from old worn or soiled linens. Check the guest closed for any outgrown clothing or coats.
